Instant gratification. Everything at the tips of our fingers, ain’t it amazing, wonderful, convenient even. Personally I find it overwhelming. So much information seems like too much to process. Is that the point? Overwhelm to control?
Perhaps. Perhaps. PERHAPS.
The Good Old Days
Life used to be slower. We had to wait for the next episode of our favorite show, we sent letters, and found jobs in the Saturday edition of a national newspaper. We or I didn’t think they were the good old days while living them. Gratification took time, and that was okay.
I was young and impatient, and excited to see the evolution of the future, what the world would hold for me so I welcomed change and innovation. I remember the first laptops and how excited we were.
Now, being on the other side of it, my view is very different and I wonder if we could have done it differently to establish and maintain a balance instead of now existing further and further beyond the tipping point.
The Vanishing Point Of Joy
I can’t pinpoint the exact point where the joy just up and left, took a seat on the sidelines while life took off at a supersonic pace. The mystery of life was pushed aside as everyone feels the need to share every small thing in their lives.
I don’t think every one needs to be a content creator and the constant rehash of the same minutiae of life is tedious at the very least.
But its way more than the social connection explosion steaming through our communities, apps galore replacing in person interaction, and folks relying on their smart phones to coddle them to sleep holding their hand through social interactions. Having to actually interact is such a chore.
Where is the joy. Oh, over there, sidelined playing poker with spontaneity and the mystery of life.
Where The Fuck Are We Headed Now?
According to the knuckle draggers in the good ole leadership possies, backwards with the help of technology and we are in serious danger of not noticing. We will look up from our phones one day, survey our tiny box of a solitary room, and utter oh. Best case scenario – for them.
And with a feeling of helplessness, and vulnerability, simply settle back down and gaze at the screen that has become our world.
Control is the theme, and cover up of the insane. And the heinous is arriving in the light with each new revelation taking our breath away. It’s unbelievable that humans would do that to each other. But if we sit in the horror, that works for them too.
I was fooled and I understand the hiding in phone thing. But instead I am determined to center love, kindness and community. Regardless of the enormity of their end game. The only way they succeed, is if we do nothing.
Think about this. We have the power, we always have. They tell us we are powerless. In the media, in our schools, at our workplaces simply to enable a world that serves the 1%. Instead of believing them, we are waking up. The overload of information can and is also working for us to offer an opportunity for change.
There is transparency to their degradation of human life. Look behind them throwing so much at us, so often. Invite joy to join you from the sidelines, make space in your day for the mystery of life. Meet them in a space they don’t understand and cannot control.
Let’s create a better future for those that come after us, by not allowing the gaudy, bleakness of the deranged and the evil.
